Sometimes when we experience a traumatic event, or when a hurtful interaction is repeated over and over, our nervous system is unable to fully “digest” the experience. The images, emotions, and physical sensations of the disturbing experiences get “stuck” in the body and brain, where they linger……waiting to be triggered in the present.
When activated, the stuck memories interfere with the way we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we interpret our world.
